Choose the subject before the score
AWS Solutions Architect Associate assesses the design of secure, resilient, high-performing, and cost-optimized AWS architectures. Security+ covers core cybersecurity knowledge and practical skills across threats, architecture, operations, and governance. Security is relevant to both descriptions, but their scope differs. Choose according to the work and knowledge you want to develop; an AWS architecture examination and a cybersecurity foundations examination are not substitutes.
Different practice tasks
The SAA-C03 examination has 65 multiple-choice and multiple-response questions over 130 minutes, including 15 unscored questions. Security+ SY0-701 allows up to 90 questions over 90 minutes and includes performance-based tasks. Preparation should match those item types. Question count and minutes alone do not establish which examination is harder for a particular candidate.
Compare examination costs with their context
AWS lists a $150 base USD examination price, with local currency and applicable tax differences. CompTIA's listed $439 price is a single-use SY0-701 voucher for the USA; training and Retake Assurance are separate. These are examination-entry prices, not complete preparation budgets. AWS Skill Builder and Professor Messer also illustrate how free resources and paid practice products can coexist within a preparation plan.
Match the version and acknowledge unknowns
No official population pass rate was located in the reviewed AWS or CompTIA materials. Their minimum scaled passing scores are not percentages of candidates who pass. This comparison covers SAA-C03 and Security+ SY0-701. The CompTIA page says Security+ V8 is coming in November 2026 and English SY0-701 retires June 11, 2027, so verify the version before buying study materials or a voucher.
